The UK is currently experiencing significant flooding, particularly in parts of southern and central England, due to heavy rainfall. Areas such as Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire, and Northamptonshire have been severely impacted, with some regions receiving more than a month’s worth of rain in just 24 hours. The Met Office has issued amber and yellow weather warnings for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and potential flooding, which are expected to continue through the day.
Many communities are dealing with severe surface water flooding, leading to road closures, delays in public transport, and evacuation of homes. The London Underground experienced disruptions, with some lines partially suspended. In Bedfordshire, emergency services responded to homes and businesses submerged in water, while a sinkhole appeared on the pitch of AFC Wimbledon, causing the postponement of a football match.
Authorities are advising people to avoid traveling through floodwaters as even shallow water can be dangerous. More rainfall is expected, particularly in southern and central regions, with conditions likely to ease by late evening
