Recent heavy rains in England and Wales have caused widespread flooding, severely disrupting infrastructure and sporting events. A key highlight was the collapse of a football pitch at AFC Wimbledon’s Cherry Red Records Stadium. A massive sinkhole opened up due to flooding from the nearby River Wandle, leading to the postponement of a scheduled Carabao Cup match against Newcastle United. The waterlogged stadium now resembles a golf course more than a football field, and roads around the area have been flooded, further complicating the situation.

Additionally, numerous roads across southern England, including parts of Bedford and the M25, have been submerged, making travel difficult. Rail services, particularly in Kent and Sussex, have also faced major delays due to flood damage to signaling equipment
