Lebanese surgeon Elias Jaradeh described how the overwhelming number of severe injuries from two days of bomb attacks forced him into a “robotic” mode just to keep functioning.

Jaradeh treated women and children, though most of his patients were young men, with a large number suffering severe injuries, including many who had lost their vision in both eyes.

The casualties in Lebanon include fighters from Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed group that has been engaged in cross-border conflict with Israel for months and is considered a terrorist organization by the UK and US. However, many of the wounded were family members of fighters and innocent bystanders. Jaradeh noted that the majority of those he treated appeared to be “mostly civilian.”

The bombings, which killed 37 people, including two children, have been widely attributed to Israel, although the country has not claimed responsibility.
