Banksy, the elusive street artist, has confirmed his latest work: a detailed painting of swimming fish on a City of London Police sentry box near Ludgate Hill, close to The Old Bailey and St. Paul’s Cathedral. The glass-fronted sentry box has been transformed to resemble an aquarium, marking the seventh new artwork by Banksy in London within a week.
This piece stands out from his recent works, as it appears to have been created using translucent spray paint, giving it a more detailed and intricate look compared to the stencilled silhouettes of animals like goats, elephants, monkeys, a wolf, pelicans, and a cat that have appeared in other locations across the city.
The artwork was first noticed on Sunday morning, with City of London Police officers visiting the site and photographing it after it was picked up on CCTV. They are currently waiting to determine the next steps regarding the piece, Our .suggestion LEAVE IT ALONE.
The fish artwork has attracted attention from both locals and Banksy fans. A local resident who came to see it described it as “subtle” and “rather beautiful in the sun,” while a group of Banksy enthusiasts from the West Midlands travelled to London specifically to view his latest works. One member of the group expressed that if the fish piece is indeed by Banksy, it might be his favourite among the recent creations.
The police sentry boxes, like the one used for this artwork, were originally installed in the 1990s to protect the City from potential terror attacks during the IRA troubles.
