Mr. Farage argued that since the 1990s, NATO and EU expansion eastward has given President Putin a pretext to incite war by telling Russians “they’re coming for us again.” He acknowledged, “We provoked this war. Of course, it’s [President Putin’s] fault.”

In response, Conservative Home Secretary James Cleverly accused Farage of echoing Putin’s justification for invading Ukraine, while Labour’s John Healey deemed Farage unfit for political office, let alone leading a parliamentary party.
