The Peace of Vereeniging was signed on May 31, 1902, ending the South African War, also known as the Second Boer War. The treaty was signed between representatives of the British Empire and the two Boer republics, the South African Republic (Transvaal) and the Orange Free State. The war had lasted almost three years and resulted in significant loss of life and upheaval in South Africa.
