May Day has its roots in the labour movement. The decision to observe May 1st as International Workers’ Day was made during the Second International, or the International Socialist Congress, which took place in Paris in 1889. It’s fascinating how what started as a celebration of springtime transformed into a significant day for workers’ rights and solidarity.
