Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein hospitalized after New York rape conviction overturned

Arthur Aidala, Weinstein’s lawyer, revealed that Weinstein was transferred to a Manhattan hospital shortly after his 2020 rape conviction in New York was overturned. Aidala expressed concern about Weinstein’s deteriorating health, stating, “It seems like he needs a lot of help, physically. He’s got a lot of problems.” Weinstein remains in custody at Bellevue Hospital, according to a spokesperson for the corrections department.

Weinstein, who had been serving time at the Mohawk Correctional Facility since 2023 before being moved to Rikers Island jail complex last Friday, has a history of health issues including diabetes, sleep apnea, and heart problems. Aidala mentioned Weinstein’s scheduled court appearance on Wednesday and indicated plans to meet with him on Monday.

The New York Court of Appeals overturned Weinstein’s conviction earlier in the week, citing concerns about a fair trial. The court’s decision stemmed from the inclusion of witnesses whose accusations were not part of the charges against him, leading to a new trial order. Weinstein had been convicted in 2020 of sexually assaulting Mimi Haleyi in 2006 and raping Jessica Mann in 2013, resulting in a 23-year prison sentence.

In a separate case, Weinstein was sentenced in California last year to 16 years for raping an Italian model and actress in 2013.
