Home Office Minister Chris Philp has staunchly defended the government’s NHS track record following the defection of former Conservative MP Dan Poulter to Labour. Philp refuted claims that the Tories were neglecting the NHS, emphasizing that the health service is receiving more funding than ever before in history, amounting to £165 billion annually.
Philp countered Poulter’s assertions by highlighting the Conservative Party’s substantial investments in the NHS and other public services. He underscored that despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and strike actions, NHS waiting lists are gradually decreasing.
Meanwhile, Poulter, now aligned with Labour, expressed his concerns about the direction of his former party, criticizing what he perceives as a shift towards nationalism rather than center-right principles. Despite his defection, Poulter clarified that his decision was not motivated by animosity towards Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
