The Scottish Greens have announced their intention to vote against First Minister and SNP leader Humza Yousaf in an upcoming motion of no-confidence. This decision follows the termination of the power-sharing agreement between the parties. The Greens expressed their loss of faith in the Scottish government’s commitment to effective climate and nature policies.

Former First Minister and SNP leader Alex Salmond characterized Yousaf’s position as precarious in light of this development. The vote, potentially occurring next Wednesday, presents a challenge for Yousaf as the Greens’ decision diminishes his chances of securing the motion, which was initiated by Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross.

With the distribution of MSPs in parliament, the outcome hinges on the stance of former SNP MSP Ash Regan, now an Alba Party MSP. If all Conservative, Labour, and Liberal Democrat MSPs align with the Greens against Yousaf, they would amass 64 votes against the SNP’s 63, leaving Regan’s decision pivotal.

Regan clarified that she wasn’t presenting specific demands but rather placing the onus on Yousaf to address the issues outlined in her letter. She expressed her expectation for Yousaf to articulate how he intends to address these concerns and make progress in the specified areas.
