The Battle of Culloden took place on April 16, 1746, near Inverness in Scotland. The English army, led by the Duke of Cumberland, decisively defeated the forces of Charles Edward Stuart, commonly known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, who was attempting to restore the Stuart dynasty to the British throne. This battle effectively marked the end of the Jacobite uprising, which sought to overthrow the Hanoverian monarchy in favor of the Stuarts.
