Dr. Lina Khatib, an associate fellow at Chatham House, explained to BBC Radio 5 Live that Iran orchestrated its attack as a public display intended for global attention.
She described the attack as “highly choreographed” and “actually quite limited,” emphasizing Iran’s calculated approach.
Referring to Iran’s statement that the retaliation was “computed” before the drones reached Israeli targets, Dr. Khatib suggested that Iran’s goal was to convey a strong message while avoiding further escalation.
In essence, Iran sought to save face by directly responding to Israel but was keen on preventing any further escalation of the situation.
