The recent statement from World Central Kitchen regarding the attack on the seven aid workers reveals that they were traveling in a “deconflicted zone” in two armored vehicles adorned with the WCK logo, along with a regular vehicle. Despite coordinating their movements with Israeli forces, they were attacked after departing from a warehouse in Deir al-Balah, where they had just delivered over 100 tons of humanitarian food aid brought to Gaza by ship.

Expressing deep sorrow and outrage, CEO Erin Gore condemned the “targeted attack by the IDF” and announced a temporary halt in the charity’s operations in Gaza. Meanwhile, Israel’s military has announced a thorough review of the incident.

In a poignant statement, Gore emphasized, “This is not only an attack against WCK, this is an attack on humanitarian organizations responding to dire situations where food is being weaponized in warfare. This is unforgivable.”
