Following the tragic murder of an eight-year-old girl in southern Mexico, a woman suspected of the crime faced a brutal fate at the hands of an enraged mob, which formed from protests ignited by the heinous act.
The violent demonstrations erupted subsequent to the discovery of Camila Gómez’s body near Taxco on Thursday. Social media footage captured the harrowing scene of locals assaulting a woman believed to be responsible for the killing, as police seemingly stood by.
In addition to the woman, two men suspected of involvement were also targeted by the enraged crowd but managed to survive the assault.
Camila’s disappearance on Wednesday, after she entered a neighbor’s house to use their swimming pool, prompted her mother to alert the authorities upon receiving ransom demands via phone messages.
Despite her efforts, including providing security camera footage to the police, allegedly depicting the house where her daughter was last seen, her pleas for action reportedly went unanswered.
As the investigation progressed, local authorities confirmed probing a woman and two men for aggravated homicide.
The community’s grief and anger manifested in protests against law enforcement, demanding justice for Camila, a case that stirred outrage in a nation grappling with high rates of violence against women.
Taxco residents took to the streets, overturning vehicles, blocking roads, and confronting three individuals suspected of involvement in the girl’s demise.
While footage circulated on social media depicted police presence amidst the mob, their efforts seemed focused on dispersing the gathering rather than intervening in the violent acts.
