Venezuela’s primary opposition coalition reports that its nominee has been obstructed from participating in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for July.
The Unitary Platform (PUD) of the opposition disclosed that it encountered difficulties accessing the electoral council’s website to officially enroll its candidate, Corina Yoris.
This development adds to a series of setbacks for the PUD, including the disqualification of its leader, María Corina Machado, from the electoral race.
Opinion polls have indicated that in a scenario of free and fair elections, Ms. Machado could outperform President Nicolás Maduro.
President Maduro, on the other hand, faced no hurdles in registering his candidacy for a third consecutive term in office. He marked the occasion with a rally in Caracas, where he received enthusiastic support from backers adorned in the red hues emblematic of his socialist PSUV party.
