Barclays Resolves Payment System Glitches Following Outage
Barclays announced that its payment systems and banking app are back to normal operations after experiencing technical issues that began on Tuesday evening.
The bank issued an apology for the disruption in payments affecting some of its UK customers, assuring that services are fully restored as of the early morning hours, allowing customers to resume making and receiving payments.
Several other companies, including Sainsbury’s and McDonald’s, have also faced recent technical challenges.
During the outage, numerous account holders reported difficulties accessing the Barclays app and online banking services. One business customer expressed concern on social media, emphasizing the real-life impact of such disruptions on people’s lives and the need for contingency plans.
In response to customer inquiries on social media platforms, Barclays acknowledged the issues affecting some users’ access to the app, online banking, and payments, offering apologies for the inconvenience.
Barclays, with approximately 20 million customers in the UK, manages over 50 million payments monthly. Reports of the outage began surfacing around 21:15 on Tuesday, according to DownDetector, a website monitoring IT issues.
Barclays joins a list of companies grappling with technical difficulties in recent days, including Sainsbury’s, which had to cancel deliveries due to IT problems, and Tesco, which faced similar issues. Earlier this month, McDonald’s experienced widespread store closures due to IT outages, attributing the problems to a third-party provider.
