Arnold Schwarzenegger Opens Up About Recent Pacemaker Surgery
Arnold Schwarzenegger has shared that he underwent surgery last week to have a pacemaker fitted and is currently “doing great.”
During the latest episode of his podcast “Arnold’s Pump Club,” the renowned Hollywood actor and former California governor disclosed, “Last Monday, I had surgery for a pacemaker and became a little bit more of a machine.”
Schwarzenegger acknowledged that discussing medical issues goes against the cultural norms he was raised with in Austria, where such matters were typically kept private. However, he felt compelled to share his experience, particularly because he was born with a congenital heart defect known as a bicuspid aortic valve.
Receiving numerous messages from individuals facing similar health challenges, Schwarzenegger found solace in knowing that his openness provided courage and hope to others dealing with similar conditions.
This latest surgery marks Schwarzenegger’s ongoing journey with heart health. In 1997, he underwent a pulmonic valve replacement, followed by open-heart surgery in 2018 to address an aging pulmonic valve. Two years later, he underwent surgery to replace his aortic valve.
His decision to undergo the recent surgery was prompted by irregular heartbeats caused by scar tissue from previous procedures. Despite the challenges, Schwarzenegger remains optimistic, crediting medical innovation and diligent monitoring by his healthcare team for his well-being.
Acknowledging the need for regular check-ups due to his genetic heart condition, Schwarzenegger expressed gratitude for medical advancements that have allowed him to maintain his health.
While his gym regimen may be temporarily interrupted, Schwarzenegger assured fans of his upcoming Netflix series “Fubar” that he’ll be fully prepared for filming next month.
Schwarzenegger concluded by thanking the medical professionals at the Cleveland Clinic for their care and support, emphasizing his commitment to maintaining his health and continuing his work in the entertainment industry.
