The Covid-19 inquiry, initiated by then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson in June 2022 amidst criticism of his government’s pandemic response, aims to scrutinize decision-making across the UK, including Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, before and during the pandemic.

With no specified end date, hearings are scheduled at least until 2025. Testimony has been provided by former prime ministers, cabinet ministers, government advisers, and public health experts. Johnson himself acknowledged to the inquiry that there were “undoubtedly things we should have handled differently.”

The inquiry has also sought access to government communications, including WhatsApp messages, despite many having been controversially deleted before being provided.
