A recent UN report examining the Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA highlighted the need for improvements in neutrality, staff vetting, and transparency. While Israel alleged that many UNRWA staff were associated with terrorist groups, the report stated that Israel hadn’t provided sufficient evidence to support these claims. Despite acknowledging UNRWA’s robust framework, the report emphasised the necessity of enhancing monitoring processes to address ongoing neutrality concerns. Israel rejected the findings, maintaining that the agency’s issues extend beyond isolated incidents, accusing it of being rooted in connections with Hamas. UNRWA, which has undergone dismissals based on previous allegations, asserts rigorous staff screening procedures and collaboration with host states, including Israel. However, the report noted the absence of corroborating evidence from Israel regarding its claims about UNRWA staff ties to terror groups and the UN report that was ordered failed to find any evidence.

We wonder if that includes countries who are collaborating in prolonging this suffering by supplying weapons and money, whilst failing to support this vital UN agency?
